Full Transcript- so there's going to come a point in your round of golf when you're not going to be able to reach the green with an iron and you're going to need to hit something like a hybrid or a fairway wood to get the distance to get it up onto the green now there's something that nobody really tells you about how to hit these and it's super important if you want to get that strike and get that distance and more important that control with these particular clubs I'm going to explain what that is in this video now before I do look if you're new to the channels from your first videos of mine please consider subscribing our release lessons just like this every single week to try and help you improve your game plus you never have to remember a thing I'll always put a download or practice guide that you can take straight to the range in the description box below so let's go into the small adjustments that you need to make in order to kind of strike your fairwoods and hybrids now we'll start with driver first just to show you the difference now when you're setting up the driver we create a swing Circle which enough s's when it gets to the bottom of its arcade we're trying to hit upwards on the ball all right that's very very important that's what's going to give us your maximum distance with drivers so to help us hit up in the Barbie driver we put the ball forward in our stands here just opposite our lead heel we have our sternum hanging look in the in the middle of our stand to actually behind way behind the ball what this creates naturally is a swing Circle that bottoms out behind the ball and then starts to strike the ball on the way up this is what's going to give you your maximum distance but if you did that with your hybrids or your fairwoods this is going to give you a pure top okay so you don't want to do that so what alterations do you make so let's start with let's say a fairy wood initially so what I'm going to do now is this bulb position now is no uh we're near the left heel I'm actually going to leave a club and about a club and a half gap between my front foot and where the ball position should be from here now I'm also going to position my sternum rather than back at the ball I'm now going to pick it much more over the ball even just behind it what this creates now just by that changing setup is a more downward strike on the ball why because now when we're creating the circle the bottom of that circle now is right where the ball is we driver the bottom of the circle was here and the ball is here now we're striking down on it so make those adjustments to help you strike that ball the second thing I would do once you've done this is learn to control the radius of the circle so you've created a kind of beautiful Circle here you're now controlling where that the bottom of that circle is in terms of its low point on this angle but if your arms are starting to pull up here what's happened to the club you're going to hit the top of the golf ball we want to make sure that our arms are extended so we are always controlling the radius of the circle and therefore proving the chances that you're going to be very very consistent with the strike of the shot so a really great drill here is simply this guy I get my students to this all the time all I want you to do is imagine making some swings where you really feel like your arms are extended out in front of you here if you're noticing my weight's going onto my left foot here I'm extending my arms all the way through impact here most players I'm seeing who are struggling with topping it they're very static with their legs and they've very crumpled here so just simply put your weight over onto this lead side turn those hips extensor impact here get a feeling of where that is and then what I do is I'd make a few swings just small swings initially just swing to here crashing just brushing the ground and extending through the impact area yeah once you've kind of got that sensation start to in a set of a ball or two excuse me and give this a bit of a rip so it's gonna wait for that green keeper to disappear okay there we go so get myself set really feel that I'm extending through the impact area and let's see if we can control that low point on that strike that's beautiful I thought I might hit in there for a second absolutely ripped it I was like don't that's gone so far okay that went a bit far and maybe a little bit close so we're now control we're gonna cool drill in a second so what do you do with the hybrid and what is a hybrid a hybrid basically is a modern version of an iron reply it requires exactly the same thing no different whatsoever but with a hybrid I might have more eat more Central in my stands maybe two clubs in but same principle look I check my sternum by simply hanging the club down here I don't want it hanging too far behind I want it hanging maybe on the golf ball here might even fit my left foot a little bit more here but what I'm doing is now is I'm controlled where I'm striking it I'm controlling my radius and the same thing really feel like I'm extending through that impact area here and I do exactly the same thing look with my hybrid swing back extend through and I actually caught that there just a fraction just a fraction thin but what that basically means but I've still got this what hybrids are great for they're good at recovering that all I would do to kind of strike that a bit better would be getting more weight onto his front foot here and extend even more on the way through now let's get into one's cool drill that you can take straight to the course so there's one thing that could actually affect some of this and that's obviously your contact now you saw in my last shot I caught it a little bit clean now if I've cut it clean I would have hit right down at the bottom part of that golf club and I want to hit much higher in the club face so I've put some foot powder spray okay and I've sprayed it over the face now what I love about this is golf can be complicated but give yourself like a task like this which is literally if I hit a shot here and I top it watch this look what I've hit I've topped it and I've hit right at the bottom it gives me immediate feedback if I want the ball to go up in the air I've got it higher in the face now in order for me to do that what I'm going to do here is I need to make sure that I've got enough lean of this shaft through the impact area as opposed to I don't want to extend your impact doing this with a flick I want to make sure I've got enough lean in that shaft so what I'll do it's certainly a setup is make sure that handles opposite my lead thigh and then I do exactly all this and this comes with drivers and your hybrids and then I do exactly the same thing get myself set and now I'm going to hit a shot and I'm going to get some immediate feedback and all I'm going to do is try and hit higher in the face
completely different strike a little bit of grasp but you can see here if I just tighten that grass away look can you see now where I've hit much higher in the face beautiful launch on that kind of hybrid now just let's just finish off with driver just so you should see the difference with a driver completely different ball positions further forward in my stance and now position my Sterner look where my sternum is now relative to the ball further back the visualization now is much much more like I'm heading up on the ball now not down on it completely different let's just smash driver
beautiful that is how you start to make the subtle adjustments with your driver fairy wood and hybrids so I hope you enjoyed this video if you did give it a thumbs up remember there's a free download practice guide in the description box below Plus if you want to know how to rip the driver go and check this one out it'll complement this video really well but until next week have a wonderful golfing week.

So, there's going to come a point in your round of golf when you're not going to be able to reach the green with an iron, and you're going to need to hit something like a hybrid or a fairway wood to get the distance to get it up onto the green. Now, there's something that nobody really tells you about how to hit these, and it's super important if you want to get that strike and get that distance, and more importantly, that control with these particular clubs. I'm going to explain what that is in this video.
Before I do, look, if you're new to the channel, this is one of the first videos of mine, please consider subscribing. I release lessons just like this every single week to try and help you improve your game. Plus, you never have to remember a thing. I'll always put a download or practice guide that you can take straight to the range in the description box below. So, let's go into the small adjustments that you need to make in order to strike your fairways and hybrids.
Now, we'll start with the driver first just to show you the difference. When you're setting up with the driver, we create a swing circle which, enough 'S's when it gets to the bottom of its arc, we're trying to hit upwards on the ball. That's very, very important. That's what's going to give us your maximum distance with drivers. So, to help us hit up on the ball with the driver, we put the ball forward in our stance, just opposite our lead heel. We have our sternum hanging, looking in the middle of our stance or even behind, way behind the ball. What this creates naturally is a swing circle that bottoms out behind the ball and then starts to strike the ball on the way up. This is what's going to give you your maximum distance. But if you did that with your hybrids or your fairways, this is going to give you a pure top. So, what alterations do you make? Let's start with, let's say, a fairway wood initially.
So, the ball position now is nowhere near the left heel. I'm actually going to leave a club and about a club and a half gap between my front foot and where the ball position should be. From here, I'm also going to position my sternum rather than back at the ball. I'm now going to pick it much more over the ball, even just behind it. What this creates now, just by that changing setup, is a more downward strike on the ball. Why? Because now when we're creating the circle, the bottom of that circle is right where the ball is. With the driver, the bottom of the circle was here, and the ball is here. Now we're striking down on it. So, make those adjustments to help you strike that ball.
The second thing I would do once you've done this is learn to control the radius of the circle. So, you've created a kind of beautiful circle here, and you're now controlling where the bottom of that circle is in terms of its low point on this angle. But if your arms are starting to pull up here, what's happening to the club? You're going to hit the top of the golf ball. We want to make sure that our arms are extended so we are always controlling the radius of the circle and, therefore, improving the chances that you're going to be very, very consistent with the strike of the shot.
A really great drill here is simply this. I get my students to do this all the time. All I want you to do is imagine making some swings where you really feel like your arms are extended out in front of you. If you're noticing, my weight's going onto my left foot here. I'm extending my arms all the way through impact here. Most players I'm seeing who are struggling with topping it, they're very static with their legs, and they're very crumpled here. So, just simply put your weight over onto this lead side, turn those hips, extend through impact here, get a feeling of where that is. Then what I do is I'd make a few swings, just small swings initially, just swing to here, brushing just the ground and extending through the impact area. Once you've kind of got that sensation, start to, instead of a ball or two, excuse me, and give this a bit of a rip.
So, wait for that greenkeeper to disappear. Okay, there we go. Get myself set, really feel that I'm extending through the impact area. Let's see if we can control that low point on that strike. That's beautiful. I thought I might hit in there for a second. Absolutely ripped it. I was like, "Don't. That's gone so far." Okay, that went a bit far and maybe a little bit close. So, we're now controlled. We're going to cool drill in a second.
So, what do you do with the hybrid? And what is a hybrid? A hybrid basically is a modern version of an iron. It requires exactly the same thing, no different whatsoever. But with a hybrid, I might have more central in my stance, maybe two clubs in, but same principle. Look, I check my sternum by simply hanging the club down here. I don't want it hanging too far behind. I want it hanging maybe on the golf ball here, might even fit my left foot a little bit more here. But what I'm doing is now is I'm controlled where I'm striking it. I'm controlling my radius, and the same thing. Really feel like I'm extending through that impact area here. I do exactly the same thing with my hybrid. Swing back, extend through. I actually caught that there just a fraction, just a fraction thin. But what that basically means, with hybrids, they're great for recovering. All I would do to kind of strike that a bit better would be getting more weight onto this front foot here and extend even more on the way through.
Now, let's get into one cool drill that you can take straight to the course. So, there's one thing that could actually affect some of this, and that's obviously your contact. Now, you saw in my last shot, I caught it a little bit clean. Now, if I've caught it clean, I would have hit right down at the bottom part of that golf club, and I want to hit much higher in the club face. So, I've put some foot powder spray, okay, and I've sprayed it over the face. What I love about this is golf can be complicated, but give yourself a task like this, which is literally, if I hit a shot here and I top it, watch this. Look what I've hit. I've topped it, and I've hit right at the bottom. It gives me immediate feedback. If I want the ball to go up in the air, I've got it higher in the face.
Now, in order for me to do that, what I'm going to do here is I need to make sure that I've got enough lean of this shaft through the impact area. As opposed to, I don't want to extend your impact doing this with a flick. I want to make sure I've got enough lean in that shaft.
