Don't Hit A Single Bunker Shot Until You've Done This Drill

Transcript Summary- “If you’re struggling with bunker shots, you’re in for a treat! I brought my dad in for a live golf lesson because his bunker play was horrendous, but with just one simple drill, he made a huge improvement. The key to great bunker play starts with a solid setup—getting the right distance from the ball and maintaining a consistent wrist position throughout the swing. In this lesson, I worked with my dad on keeping his left wrist cupped during the swing to control the depth of the club and prevent fat or thin shots. This drill works on all types of sand, so if you struggle with your bunker shots, give this a try. And as always, if you found this helpful, give it a thumbs up, share it with a friend, and check out the free practice guide in the description.”

Full Transcript - look at that now you've got the distance oh yeah that and the spin yeah that plays brilliant they when you a bad one now no not fantastic so if you struggle with your bunker play you're in for a real treat today I've brought my dad in for a live golf lesson his bunker plays absolutely horrendous I certainly was horrendous until I gave him this one drill um so what I thought i' do today is is I show you what I did with dad first in setup just to get that out of the way and then I'll bring you in on the live lesson where I gave him this drill and it worked an absolute treat it works on all different types of sound too now before I do that if you're new to the channel so your first lessons of mine please consider subscribing at least videos like this one every single week to try and help you improve your game plus as always you never have to remember a thing I'll always put a free download or practice guide in the description box below so before I bring you in on the live lesson let me just kind of cover what I did with Dad with setup first great Bunker play starts with a great setup okay now when you're play you know if you're struggling with bunkers ultimately you're really struggling with two things you're struggling to control where the club lands every single time and you're struggling to control How deep the club goes so if you're not going enough into the sand you'll hit hit that horrible thin shot if you go too much into the sand you hit that fat shot so you need to be able to control the amount of sand you take and you do that by getting a consistent landing spot and controlling how deep this club goes it's starts with a great setup so the first thing we did with my dad look there's your target line I put a line here look on the heel line here very simple with my toe turned out 45° why is it turned out because we want the space look to come through the shot the thing that really surprised my dad was look at this I got him a full Club width look away from that golf ball here so his heel is literally a full Club width away from the ball this was ridiculous for him because he felt like oh my God miles were down it feels feel like I'm having to get really low down in order to get to the golf ball he did now getting low is really important because what it does is the hands get low you get a cupping effect in the wrist and we're going to cover that in a second it's very very important but it adds L to the golf club you'll also notice from this angle here look I haven't got a square face I've actually got the club face aimed or the Leading Edge aimed and pointing towards my front tour here again all this was adding love to my dad's Club really really important now for from here his Stan is nice and wide all he needed to do was maintain this cing in his wrist and I gave him one simple drill to work on before every single shot to get this consistent strike each and every single time come and join me now I think you're in for a real

surprise so so get so when you goes like that right what you're doing here is when you when it goes deep all you're doing is this look so you might start with a cup but watch this if I take all that cup out of my wrist right what happens to the length of the golf club goes under the ground yeah if I keep the cup and I keep it and I look and I'm coming through like this I've I don't increase the radius I don't go deeper you follow but what you're doing is you're your watch this you take it out on the way back and then you roll it on the way through keep the cup of that left wrist all the way back all the way through into impact so you're keeping the Loft on that Golf Club all the way back makes sense so pause dad put a good X feel in here hold the club out in front of you see that wrist there yeah I stood there if you played bunker shots just for a second you'd be like this you'll be back there look see you still got it yeah and you still got it here yeah what you're doing is watch this you swing back here and maybe then you've lost a bit you lost a bit more and now you've gone deeper right look at this I've kept it I've kept it kept it yeah all the way through yeah yeah so you're keeping that cupping of the wrists all the way back keep it that's it now you've kept it you haven't let it there you go that's it watch that ball position and cre back in your stance bit further forward in your stance dad you're aiming a bit right now you're aiming for for the other flag that's it there you go hang on let's just double check this look there's your alignment t- Mark draw a tree here almost yeah there you go nice cing keep that cing all the way

through there we go yeah makes sense yeah all right do it does yep yeah so hold it out in front of you again look watch this hold it out here keep feel the cup yeah right swing back feel the up look and then come back in so no no no look we've done already look you watch this you've gone Drive look at this back where we taking where back in front of us that's where we cut in now watch this back here now watch this now go around with it that's it there you so your body's turning with it makes sense yeah yep

look at that now every time yeah feeling better yeah a lot better Daniel easier yes good cup them come them again

great back there we

go every time love it yeah yeah feel good it does feel yeah that's it so look at the up now look look at this angle we're seeing yeah in those R and you're keeping it all the way back you still got it there you go look and then and then you come down you're coming back in back to where no no no now it's not this it's not this look is it why no cuz now you got flick it yeah you're bringing it back and you're moving it to such it there yeah now we go around you got it you got yeah yeah yes it's there that's

it cup him that's it look at that now you've got the distance oh yeah that and the spin yeah that feel brilliant do it hey yeah it does lovely feeling isn't it it is a lovely feeling yeah don't drive now pause there pause there yeah don't drive look here back and then turn through you got it you got it cup those wrist that's

it back into square back to square and then through you go there you go beautiful cup them that's it that's it there that's it you got

it look at this now it's a bit windy it's going to quite strong wind isn't it it's quite hard to get it up to those flags at the moment but um and again for me but every time now every single time l so much better so look from this angle going gone okay even the posst is Dad look at the wrist even if you try to cup it it's making a big difference to your posture is it oh yeah when you a bad one now no not fantastic it feels on so low down really yeah I think a lot of people who are got take certain little sound yeah well because you you're using the bounce right remember there if you look at this angle here you've got the cing in the wrist if you were to if you what you're trying to do on the way back is just bit by bit you you get rid of it like this and now the problem is is when you then bring it back now you're closer to the sand you fat it so then you start to pull up and stuff yeah do all sorts of things there I've got my cupping I keep it yeah I've still got it here look yes and I've still got the way through that's key it is because that's a loft and that helps you to use the balance of the golf club a lot better as well doesn't it right

Y and even you trying to get that angle is getting you naturally lower isn't it yeah it is

just quite a bit clean there yeah just a little bit clean but as brilliant I mean you that's all it was that would be yeah there no hint of it no that wasn't that wasn't the true thingin that wasn't a thing where you thin the ball you just caught the ball beautifully clean it's gone too far yeah right all right off you go so again you've got got a system you know where ball position is yes set your cing first watch this set it so so you look at this here look you've now got the angles of the cing so now what you got to do from here now you've set that now you lower yourself with that right to the ball you're maintaining it you're coming back in with st it there and you're bringing it through but without look at this we're not releasing them right y so get feel feel that so that will teach you how low you need to be as well cuz imagine here if you're cing your wrist you're moving the club away from the sand out you yeah get yourself

set more that's the thing so that's how that's where you've got to be get that that cing in there okay that's

it look at that so you're a little bit release yes a little bit that's why you've gone a bit deep so you're a little bit like there yeah as opposed to just keeping it yeah so I would certainly try and if you can get yourself set again I'll just remind you of that so I'm here look we've got the cing yeah we still got it yeah we've still got it here and we still got it here okay yeah oh lovely rain finish off there with a beauty

yeah just like that I think we're finished with that let going okay right hope you love the video give it a thumbs up we're getting soing wet it's simple as that get set up right focus on the cupping the wrist that keeps the Loft on that keeps the bounce on if you enjoyed the video give it a thumbs up share it with a friend and if you want to learn a bit about how dad's improved his chipping with the recent session check this video out right here fantastic thanks d but until next week we're going to get dry bye.
