Transcript Summary-

Alright, let’s keep it simple! If you’re like most golfers, you stand over the ball trying to hit the perfect shot, thinking about all these little things: grip, posture, swing path, weight distribution… sound familiar? It’s overwhelming, right? But here’s the thing: all that extra thinking can mess up your swing and make you less consistent. So let’s get back to basics and help you find your natural swing.

First off, stop overcomplicating things. You want your swing to feel easy and natural. I often tell my students to just let go. What do I mean by that? Try this: grab a club, swing it around freely, no control, just let it flow. Notice how smooth it is? No stiffness, no forced effort. A lot of golfers try too hard, making their swings jerky, and that ruins their consistency. So, stage one: learn to relax and let go.

But, I get it—this can feel a little out of control at first. But imagine this: you’re in control, just without overthinking it. Grip the club firmly enough to hold onto it, but keep your arms relaxed. This is where the magic happens.

Now, once you’ve got the flow, let’s add some body movement. To generate more power, you need to rotate your body, especially that trail pocket, towards the target. This adds arc to your swing, making it more efficient and effortless. Don’t force it—just rotate naturally.

And here’s where it all connects: the key to power isn’t in the arms, it’s in the lower body. You need to transfer your weight properly. A simple way to practice this is by using a heavy object, like a shopping bag. As you swing it, feel your body naturally moving towards the target. That’s what you want in your golf swing: momentum and natural body movement.

Finally, once you’ve got that feeling of flow and body movement, it’s time to let it rip. But remember, give up a bit of control. The more you relax, the more power you’ll generate. Don’t worry about hitting it perfect; just swing freely and confidently, and that’s when you’ll start seeing consistent, effortless drives that go farther than you ever thought possible.

So, loosen up, swing freely, and with time, you’ll be hitting longer, straighter drives—effortlessly. Give it a try, and I promise you’ll see the difference.

Full Transcript- Okay ball off left heel weight back shoulders Square smooth take away then cck those wrists and stare at the inside of that ball got it uhoh no way how often do you stand over the golf ball with one two three four even five things how's that working out for you look if you anything like my students they come to me they want to know how to hit driver straight they want want to know how to be more consistent with their driver they want to know how to add some more distance but the problem is what they're try to do they're trying to almost make it too complicated they're trying to hit so many different positions and they're ruining their golf swings and look I don't know about you but I don't know what age you are but most of us are different ages we've got different levels of flexibility and it's really important that I help you find your swing so that you can in a sense swing in such a way that it's natural to you and you can generate natural power and hit it further with ease so in this week's video what I do I want to share with you some of the things I share with my students to help them in a sense develop their own natural way of swinging so they can generate effortless power whilst giving them that extra bit of accuracy too before I get into the video look if you're new to the channel your first lessons of mine please consider subscribing at least videos just like this one every single week to try and help you improve your game plus you never have to remember a thing I'll always put free downlo practice guide in that description box below so let's now start to help you hit drive a bit more consistently and gain some some extra yardage with a swing that's going to work for you so there are two stages to this the first stage uh with any power and this is something I just don't see with am golfers enough is is they make it look too difficult right so the first thing I want to do is I want to have a lovely relaxed effortless gol swing and to do that stage one you have to learn to let go and kind of what does that look like well if I show you this is a simple analogy I often get a players to do this you grab a golf club and just swing it now as I'm doing this this club is flowing through beautifully freely it's effortless and forming a pretty decent Circle right and a consistent and repeatable action right yet I'm not controlling it I'm just letting it go yeah a lot of golfers in the swing look more like this they're trying to create a perfect circle I might make a reasonable effort but what do you noce about the club it's traveling slower it's more Jagged it's more effort to do this and I guarantee it's less consistent so it's counterintuitive to let go and that is stage one so what I'm going to show you how you do that first of all while still having some control but obviously letting go you don't want to be kind of hitting the ball much further but you're going right and left which will bring us into stage two and show you how the body can support that naturally to help you hit it straighter too so let's start with this feeling of what you need and how you need to basically learn how to let it go I'm going to bring Leo in just for this one so Leo do me a favor so so what I want to do is I just want to grab hold of this golf club and this is how you start to learn how to let go so all I do Leah is just pull the club around from and TR if you can move it so you can't move out my hands and what do you notice when you're pulling this yeah really stiff yeah really stiff it's kind of like he's there's no play in my arms all I'm going to do is this and you can get your partner to do this almost before you te off you'll be amazed at how much tension you've got right now watch pull it trle out my hand move me around y way easier yeah you can move me all over the place right yeah so Leo can move me all over the place but you can't pull the club out my hands can you no okay awesome did Budd that's all right so what I've got here is I have a firm enough grip to hold on to the golf club but I've got beautiful play in my arms my arms are relaxed my grip is firm enough that I've got some control of the club head just start with that as stage number one learn to let go and I get it you're going to be out there and when you do this for the first time time it's going to feel a bit nerve-wracking you know you've lost control of the driver it feels very strange to suddenly let go and this will feel very much out of control but just imagine this this is you've got maximum control right so let's start with letting go so the first thing I do is is and I'll show you this a lot of my students are quite stiff they don't have a lot of flexibility at times so I'm going to I exaggerate I'm going to lock my body in place to start with and we'll see how far we can hit it with just a beautifully free flowing MO of this golf club here where I'm swinging my arms nice and relaxed but keeping my grip firm enough that I've got some control over that head so get myself set lock my body in place barely move look just swung in the club head 253 yards and that just felt easy right and for a lot of players who don't have the mobility this is the 100% place to start so build some freedom in it can be scary SC at first it feel out of control you might not hit it as good as that to start with but this is stage number one learn to feel a beautifully flowing golf club and then we'll move on to stage number two and how we add more control to this so now you've got this lovely relaxed flowing kind of motion your arms are swinging 3D it's going of feel a bit out of control so let's add some control to it by showing you how the body is going to help you all right so the very first thing to do is is we need to add in a Arc to this golf swing a proper R where the body in a sense helps this club swing on an arc okay now the simplest way of doing that is is I don't want you to force the A and put it into a position I want you to just naturally keep that lovely flowing swing so take your Trail pocket move your Trail pocket as you're swinging backwards towards the Target and what this does is it creates look a rotation and as you rotate the club swings on an AR I'm not putting it there yeah a lot of players unfortunately without realizing maybe because they just want to hit the ball straight they stay still this pocket stays what it is they pick it up with their arms and they're chopping down on the golf ball as I'm swinging here look I'm swinging the club freely watch and then there we go on an AR where's my pocket going going towards the Target and away we go right so there the first thing get that club swinging on a simply not by controlling it but by just allowing your pocket to turn towards a Target and now we've got an AR right so there's the first thing but that alone won't get you striking it right we need to in a sense get what I like to call the lower body working effectively see the better players and natural players the effortless players you'll see them when they come into impact as they're coming down this weight this pressure is on this left foot this lead foot here this is their platform that they're going to use to bang hit the ball from if you slice it or hook it what I see all the time is is you may create this AR you may may be swinging with momentum but at the top of your swing your weight's over on this side now the problem is is it's too late from he look the slicers will try and hit the ball by coming over the top the hookers will oh I've got to get forward they slide they get stuck underneath and they start hooking this golf ball so how can you go about naturally organizing this Motion in a way that's going to be more consistent so what you can do is grab a bag of shopping or something fairly heavy and you know learning to kind of transfer weight from one's foot to the other is too comp you can't think about that right so you need to learn uh what it feels like and this for me my students love because it's really effective and transferable to a golf club so grab a bag of shopping and if you do this with me it's it'll really really help so we said look there's the arm swinging away we've got the trail pocket now look moving look towards the target but notice here notice how now you'll see almost my my body almost working my lower body working towards the target before the bag gets to the top of the Swing why is it doing that it doesn't naturally because what's happening is I swing the bag my body look is doesn't want to keep going this way because it'll lose balance it's almost in a sense counterbalancing the weight of this club and getting itself ready look to sling on the way through so notice this at no stage am I trying to put the club in position right right when people talk about lag in a golf swing and power lag is created Naturally by doing this look at this in action so you'll see we great players they're coming in with lag look one and two it's like I'm don't have to try to create lag is created by momentum going this way if I stop now the club is going to release in a flick position but now I've got that sensation of throwing the shopping as it were suddenly it will start to transfer to my to my golf club now using a b like that it's just instant it's every student gets it and the more effort you put into it at home the quicker you'll get this on a golf course I sometimes get people to kind of put head cover on the on the driver simply to add weight to the head cuz when you've got something heavy you're less likely to use your hands to try and put it into place you're more likely to swing the heavy weight by using that kind of bodies one and two one and two pocket to Target and two look at that there one look how moving and then swing you're creating natural momentum with no extra Force so the moment of truth how do you put this effortlessly into hitting your golf shots okay look the first thing you got to do is you you're going to have to let go you're going to have to kind of give up control to get it right so the first thing is I love to do is is again Ask Myself are my arms relax my grip's firm but my arms relaxed yes they are you could just hit shots to start with like that but then what I love to do is look I'm going to start with a few swings I'm going to feel my right pocket working towards a Target now if I do this and add some momentum into this back swing my body will already naturally if there's momentum going this way it will automatically want to resist that and go towards a Target if I'm too careful which I see a lot of players just let shoping you just won't do that it's just not natural right right so be brave get that sensation of a flow Trail pocket to Target just feel some momentum you'll notice you're doing it if you start hearing that whoo motion one and two and that's the other thing I love to do is i' like you know one and two to this because the one and two bit it's like one and I'm already now and two it's like throw the shopping back one and two so a rhythm to all of this that you can really add to your momentum now as iend of this golf ball I really let it go I don't care where the ball goes to start with be willing to basically give up some control okay so nice and smooth to start with get myself set one and two felt some momentum 286 a little bit lower than I wanted but again I don't care right straight down the middle of th it we'll take it so I'm getting control by giving it up and I don't know what it looks like to you but that felt really effortless and easy to me right so all I do is is if I want more and more power eventually I will just like how do I creit more momentum in that bag grab a bag of a heavy bag of shopping how do you add more momentum to it your body we have to explain it in words it's too complicated your body will feel it right and once you feel it you then start to take those feelings and you go how do I add more whoosh into this motion right and you find it out by kind of there's my momentum right pocket pocket to Target but add some more whoosh into the swing whoa look at that 35 yards right I don't know about you it feels effortless okay so this is how you start to generate power but still have control when I first learned this and I give this to my students look they do find it scary and they don't always hit it straight to start with and they easily want to go start to go in themselves control but I promise you this is liberating and it's effortless and it works with your body right more importantly okay so do me a favor loosen up learn to swim the club freely start to control it within beautiful free flowing motion of that body and you're going to start to find as my students do some effortless drives that are going to be surprisingly longer than you've ever hit before I hope you really really enjoyed this video if you did give it a thumbs up maybe share it with the video share video share it with a friend who you know struggling help them create this effortless golf swing I'll put a free
