The Fastest Way To Improve Your Ball Striking - LIVE GOLF LESSON
Nov 24, 2023Full Transcript- so here on YouTube you've probably seen me coach real golfers probably just like you live on camera and you'll seen them gain 203 40 50 yards plus and a lot of people asking me how are we able to do it so quickly well one of the things I use I try to keep things incredibly simple I'm going to show you today some of the simple ways or little tricks I use to gain a better strike with maybe irons to start with and then getting your distance and then I what I'll do also today is I'll show you um I'll bring you in on a live lesson actually with student where I get him to improve the quality of his strikes with his irons really really quickly oh my goodness wow wow wow and at the end of the video I'll show you how we added 50 ads to this Adam swing again in a live style setting so you get to see the tricks that I'm using to improve strike with your irons and your driver they're really really simple and they're going to help you I'm sure so before I get into the video if you're new to the channel it's one of your first lessons of mine please consider subscribing I at least videos just like this every single week to try and help you improve your game plus you never have to remember a thing I'll always put a free download practice guide in the description box below so I don't know about you but my students hate it when things get super complicated so if ever I talk about the details of the Swing they often get lost and they realize look in in a second and a quarter which is kind of what the swing is there is no time to think of all these things right so I need to kind of achieve multiple things in a golf swing really great positions without having to think about it too much okay and this is what I want for you right which is where this is going to come in in a second so today what we'll do is we'll talk about how you improve the quality of your strip with your irons in a real simple way and then what I'll do is I'll move on to uh driver a little bit later so let's start with the iron so it's simple as this it's really really easy so if if you check ball position ball position here is is just ahead of Center my setup position here my shaft's just opposite my lead uh my inside lead leg and my trail elbow here is tucked inwards here simple setup right now here's what you'll find with great B Strikers I've put a golf bag here I'll move forward a little bit I've put a golf bag here just inside my lead heel okay in line with this lead heel now great ball Strikers when they've struck the ball they will get the full shaft the full shaft and the club on this bag here okay and you'll notice here my lead arm and Club are forming a straight line it's really simple this is what we call a very strong position it will help you hit the ball first then the ground and it will give you a very very powerful shot most amers I cutch never get there what they're doing is is they get where they've struck the golf ball here and then suddenly what happens is the head will strike maybe where the bag is here and they get this very weak position where the arm start to spread apart here the handles way behind this is the strong position here this is kind of the weak position now what you'll notice with a strong position is this there's a lot of weight here on my my lead side you'll notice here we've got an angle in this Trail wrist you'll notice that my trail elbow is tucked in now these are all things that I don't want you necessarily to think about because they're very detailed so what I would love you to do is just create an image or kind of a feeling that helps you take this to golf cross so I gave this to a student recently where just this is one of my kids cricket bats okay now I want you not to put the head on the on the bag just here I want you to put the full shaft so imagine this is the golf club it's a full shaft and the head we're going to line it up here to my lead heel and what I want you to do is I want you to make some swings I want you to put the full bat at the same time on this back now PA Strikers would do this they would swing the bat and they throw the head like this now the heads hit the bad the bag but left the full shaft behind Okay I want you here to put the full and time it the full face of this bat on that bag there okay what this looks like in terms of the of a golf club to start with turn it round here I don't want you to be flicking the head at the club I want you to put the full shaft on this bag and just treat that as a really really really simple visual okay now what it does is is without you having to think about all these positions look at this if my right elbow pops out like this I'm going to throw the head so automatically I my body organizes itself to really feel what it needs to do to achieve this motion okay now what you can do with this which I absolutely love is you can take that and just tilt the bag slightly on an ark like this okay now you got to remember the golf swing is whoops the golf swings and Arc so what I also love is here's this once we've got this round you can start to imagine now look if you stop it impact here and throw the head same thing happens you can still get flicky now imagine swinging and putting the full face of the bat on this bag so it works on the a and now look even post impact we've still got a really good strong position and you're not having to think about it you could take that comfortably that lovely image on a golf course and your body will do its best to try and help you out now one before we hit short let me show you this side that's really really important so when we're making this swing okay we'll do with the bat again from here you've got to remember that the golf swing is played roughly on a 45° Circle so when you picture this I want you to picture the bat or in this the golf club here hitting this bag at a roughly 45° angle slicers would probably go like this too flat hookers would probably get this club standing up too much here okay so I want you to imagine now we're going to hit this bag face on here and this is really the simplest image I know to kind of get you striking it move it slightly on the ark Here and Now what we're doing here watch this we're going to work it round and I've still look wa smash it I'm still working the club beautifully through the ball works on an ax still got a wonderful strong position if I stay back and flick my wrists that's just this bit of the uh the backat hitting the the bag I'm going to work it round and hit the full bag completely okay so really really simple visual so let's start with that initially put this back let's start with that initially that simple feeling so I've got my ball position just ahead of Center my hand position forward this Trail elbow tucked in give yourself a really good start okay and then all I'm going to do is is I'm not going to stop at the ball I'm going to imagine going past the golf ball and smacking that bag with not just the head but the full shaft on that bag there okay and we're going to start off with some small shots got 79 here so a few small shots just getting this
sensation love that now what I absolutely love about this is it just gives me and my students one simple thing to think about and visualize and then what you do is you start to trust your body to I find that position when it doesn't you'll go oh do you know what I did I felt that I could I visualized I hit the bag too early hit it with a full shaft now before we jump on to uh driver and bring you in on a live lesson here where I give this to a student there's one thing I'd love to cover and that is the club face as well as obviously put the full shaft look on that bag here in front of you you've got to look after the face you could put the full shaft on leave the face wide open and the ball sails off to the right so what I'm doing is is I'm also getting a sense of well how do we Square the face most people here have the first coming open and they Square it by flicking their wrists here okay they might do this now we've lost everything I want you to educate yourself to square that club face up here with look forearm and wrist rotation fear fire it downwards fire it down I've still got that strength you could just visualize this you know get yourself there there's the bag in front fire it there really get a sense of that club face going through Square bang into the bag really really simple visuals so that's it start with that first now let me bring you in now on a live lesson with Adam where I gave him another simple visual which really improved his strike and then I'll show you what we did with the driver no that that was topped it was that was to so just angle this T in here yeah and I want you to imagine here that you this if this club was a hammer what would you do come yeah look and where's your weight going forward right okay so I want you to just for a second just make a few pracs to the side here okay imagine you're hammering the tea just for a second do a couple of swings just imagining you're going to hammer the tea into the ground this is the flat part of the hammer so don't let that hammer come short come up like this cuz if you do that you're going to yeah so everything here the weight everything is moving so it's that's it
grip right oh yeah it was after look at that now let's just have a look at here where's the divot there there that's a good thing right that's a good thing isn't it yeah 100% right so here's what I'm going to do I'm going to leave this here for a second just to the side of the ball right just there and I want you to imagine now doing the same thing Hammer that ball just Hammer that ball in the same way you've just done down down
in oh my goodness wow wow wow wow look at this come look at this where's the div Danny that is the first time ever we take a picture of this that's the first time ever I did it correctly you see yeah wow so this is how you this is how in the using these simple visuals like that that's how you basically play wow I like that so let's review the bidding from the tea box we got a little rhythm y instead of me coming straight back I came more in the circle yes I have more Zing like this yes and then for the irons instead of me holding the club here I'm going to hold it down a little I'm going forward and then I'm gripping then I'm going in then I'm doing this and wait on the front exactly so think this so pause there the hammer I forgot the hammer so the thing the thing about that so I don't want you to remember all that stuff it's too complicated right this is what this is for okay yeah yeah so if you just think of that club as a hammer yeah look at this if you think of that club as a hammer you don't have to remember that your weight has to go forward you don't have to remember that your hands have to go forward you if you think of a nail what you going to do your body is going to do that automatically for you yeah you see you don't have to remember all that stuff just simply imagine that nail put a ball next to it and then imagine hammering that ball in the same way that you'd hammer a nail into the ground good okay and I'll give you that compression excellent excellent awesome excellent that's a very good point there because a lot of times if you do all these steps I'm thinking too much T yes that adds tension over thinking just hit just hit the and if you notice here there's this theme running through this what we're trying to do is is of course there's lots of things that we need to do in the golf swing but what we do is we try to kind of how do we get 10 things happening with just one image yeah so so we try to kind of take all these complicated s swing mechanics and reduce them into just simple images and feelings right I like that and that's how then you have to remember them and the te was again I'm visual that was a tremendous help yeah that's
it that's what I'm talking about look at that watch where this lands now how good is that wow and I'm I'm I'm I'm far under normal circumstances that ball would have ended up either in the left bunker or in front of the green and that was a nine iron so you already gave me an extra Club there you go simple all right so you can see that look even with Adam he wanted to focus on lots of little things but it's those things that get in the way of you improving quickly try to come up with images and feelings like we've just shown you today that ultimately get a multitude of great swing positions happening naturally and images like this you can easily take to the golf course to start seeing results pretty much immediately now do me a favor if you enjoyed this video give it a thumbs up but I'm going to show you I want to bring you in on a live lesson I did with Adam the same person here with driver we added over 50 yards in just a few balls with an incredibly simple visuals I know you're going to absolutely love just click this video right here of course if you're new to the channel it's your first lesson of mine please subscribe by pressing here but until next week have a wonderful golfing week.

"So here on YouTube, you've probably seen me coach real golfers, probably just like you, live on camera. You've seen them gain 20, 30, 40, 50 yards plus, and a lot of people are asking me how we're able to do it so quickly. Well, one of the things I use is I try to keep things incredibly simple. Today, I'm going to show you some of the simple ways or little tricks I use to gain a better strike, maybe with irons to start with, and then getting your distance. And then, I'll bring you in on a live lesson actually with a student where I get him to improve the quality of his strikes with his irons really, really quickly."
"Oh my goodness, wow, wow, wow! And at the end of the video, I'll show you how we added 50 yards to this Adam's swing again in a live style setting so you get to see the tricks that I'm using to improve strike with your irons and your driver. They're really, really simple, and they're going to help you. So before I get into the video, if you're new to the channel, it's one of your first lessons of mine, please consider subscribing. I release videos just like this every single week to try and help you improve your game. Plus, you never have to remember a thing; I'll always put a free download practice guide in the description box below."
"I don't know about you, but my students hate it when things get super complicated. So if ever I talk about the details of the swing, they often get lost and they realize, look, in a second and a quarter, which is kind of what the swing is, there is no time to think of all these things. So I need to achieve multiple things in a golf swing, really great positions, without having to think about it too much. Okay, and this is what I want for you, right, which is where this is going to come in in a second."
"So today, what we'll do is we'll talk about how you improve the quality of your strike with your irons in a real simple way. And then, what I'll do is I'll move on to the driver a little bit later. So let's start with the iron. So it's simple as this, it's really, really easy. So if you check ball position, ball position here is just ahead of center. My setup position here, my shaft's just opposite my lead inside leg, and my trail elbow here is tucked inwards. Simple setup, right? Now here's what you'll find with great ball strikers. I've put a golf bag here, I'll move forward a little bit. I've put a golf bag here just inside my lead heel, okay, in line with this lead heel."
"Now, great ball strikers, when they've struck the ball, they will get the full shaft and the club on this bag here. And you'll notice here, my lead arm and club are forming a straight line. It's really simple; this is what we call a very strong position. It will help you hit the ball first, then the ground, and it will give you a very, very powerful shot. Most amateurs never get there. What they're doing is they get where they've struck the golf ball here, and then suddenly what happens is the head will strike maybe where the bag is here, and they get this very weak position where the arms start to spread apart. Here, the handle's way behind. This is the strong position; this is kind of the weak position."
"Now what you'll notice with a strong position is this; there's a lot of weight here on my lead side. You'll notice here we've got an angle in this trail wrist, you'll notice that my trail elbow is tucked in. Now these are all things that I don't want you necessarily to think about because they're very detailed. So what I would love you to do is just create an image or kind of a feeling that helps you take this to the golf course."
"So I gave this to a student recently where, just, this is one of my kid's cricket bats, okay? Now, I want you not to put the head on the bag just here. I want you to put the full shaft. So imagine this is the golf club; it's a full shaft. And the head, we're going to line it up here to my lead heel. And what I want you to do is I want you to make some swings. I want you to put the full bat at the same time on this bag. Now, great ball strikers would do this; they would swing the bat and they throw the head like this. Now, the head's hit the bag, but left the full shaft behind. Okay, I want you here to put the full and time it, the full face of this bat on that bag there."
"What this looks like in terms of the golf club, to start with, turn it around here. I don't want you to be flicking the head at the club; I want you to put the full shaft on this bag and just treat that as a really, really, really simple visual. Okay, now what it does is, without you having to think about all these positions, look at this; if my right elbow pops out like this, I'm going to throw the head. So automatically, my body organizes itself to really feel what it needs to do to achieve this motion."
"Okay, now what you can do with this, which I absolutely love, is you can take that and just tilt the bag slightly on an arc like this. Now, you've got to remember the golf swing is, whoops, the golf swing's an arc. So what I also love is, once we've got this round, you can start to imagine, now look, if you stop at impact here and throw the head, same thing happens. You can still get flicky. Now, imagine swinging and putting the full face of the bat on this bag. So it works on the arc, and now, look, even post-impact, we've still got a really good strong position, and you're not having to think about it. You could take that comfortably, that lovely image on a golf course, and your body will do its best to try and help you out."
"Now, one before we hit short, let me show you this side. That's really, really important. So when we're making this swing, okay, we'll do it with the bat again. From here, you've got to remember that the golf swing is played roughly on a 45-degree circle. So when you picture this, I want you to picture the bat or, in this case, the golf club here hitting this bag at a roughly 45-degree angle. Slicers would probably go like this, too flat; hookers would probably get this club standing up too much here."
"Okay, so I want you to imagine now we're going to hit this bag face on here. And this is really the simplest image I know to kind of get you striking it. Move it slightly on the arc here and now, what we're doing here, watch this; we're going to work it round, and I've still got, look, a smash. I'm still working the club beautifully through the ball. Works on an arc; still got a wonderful strong position. If I stay back and flick my wrists, that's just this bit of the back hitting the bag. I'm going to work it round and hit the full bag completely. Okay, so really, really simple visual. So let's start with that initially. Put this back; let's start with that initially, that simple feeling."
"So I've got my ball position just ahead of center, my hand position forward, this trail elbow tucked in, give yourself a really good start. And then, all I'm going to do is, I'm not going to stop at the ball; I'm going to imagine going past the golf ball and smacking that bag with not just the head, but the full shaft on that bag there. Okay, and we're going to start off with some small shots. I've got a 7-iron here. So a few small shots just getting this sensation. Love that."
"Now what I absolutely love about this is it just gives me and my students one simple thing to think about and visualize. And then, what you do is you start to trust your body too. If it doesn't find that position, when it doesn't, you'll go, 'Oh, do you know what? I felt that. I visualized I hit the bag too early, hit it with a full shaft.' Now, before we jump on to the driver and bring you in on a live lesson here where I give this to a student, there's one thing I'd love to cover, and that is the club face. As well as, obviously, put the full shaft, look on that bag here in front of you, you've got to look after the face. You could put the full shaft on, leave the face wide open, and the ball sails off to the right."
"So what I'm doing is, I'm also getting a sense of, well, how do we square the face? Most people here have the face coming open, and they square it by flicking their wrists here. Okay, they might do this. Now, we've lost everything. I want you to educate yourself to square that club face up here with forearm and wrist rotation. Here, fire it downwards. Fire it down; I've still got that strength. You could just visualize this, you know, get yourself there; there's the bag in front, fire it there, really get a sense of that club face going through square, bang, into the bag. Really, really simple visuals. So that's it; start with that first."
"Now, let me bring you in now on a live lesson with Adam, where I gave him another simple visual which really improved his strike. And then, I'll show you what we did with the driver. No, that was topped; it was too, so just angle this T in here. Yeah, and I want you to imagine here that you, this, if this club was a hammer, what would you do? Come, yeah, look, and where's your weight going forward, right? Okay, so I want you to just for a second, just make a few practice swings to the side here. Imagine you're hammering the tee just for a second. Do a couple of swings just imagining you're going to hammer the tee into the ground. This is the flat part of the hammer. So don't let that hammer come short, come up like this. Because if you do that, you're going to, yeah, so everything here, the weight, everything is moving. So that's it. Grip right. Oh yeah, it was after, look at that."
"Now let's just have a look at here; where's the divot? There, that's a good thing, right? That's a good thing, isn't it? Yeah, 100% right. So here's what I'm going to do; I'm going to leave this here for a second, just to the side of the ball, right? Just there. And I want you to imagine now doing the same thing. Hammer that ball, just hammer that ball in the same way you've just done. Down, down, in. Oh my goodness, wow, wow, wow, wow, look at this. Come, look at this. Where's the divot, Danny? That is the first time ever. We'll take a picture of this; that's the first time ever. I did it correctly; you see? Wow. So this is how you, this is how, in using these simple visuals like that, that's how you basically play. Wow, I like that. So let's review the bidding. From the tee box, we got a little rhythm. Instead of me coming straight back, I came more in the circle. Yes, I have more zing like this, yes. And then, for the irons, instead of me holding the club here, I'm going to hold it down a little. I'm going forward, and then I'm gripping, then I'm going in, then I'm doing this, and weight on the front. Exactly. So think this, so pause there, the hammer. I forgot the hammer."
"So the thing about that, so I don't want you to remember all that stuff; it's too complicated, right? This is what this is for, okay? So if you just think of that club as a hammer, yeah, look at this. If you think of that club as a hammer, you don't have to remember that your weight has to go forward. You don't have to remember that your hands have to go forward. If you think of a nail, what are you going to do? Your body is going to do that automatically for you. Yeah, you see; you don't have to remember all that stuff. Just simply imagine that nail, put a ball next to it, and then imagine hammering that ball in the same way that you'd hammer a nail into the ground. Good; okay. And I'll give you that compression. Excellent, excellent, awesome, excellent. That's a very good point there because a lot of times if you do all these steps, I'm thinking too much. Yes, that adds tension, overthinking, just hit. Just hit the ball. And if you notice here, there's this theme running through this; what we're trying to do is, of course, there are lots of things that we need to do in the golf swing. But what we do is we try to kind of, how do we get 10 things happening with just one image?"
"So we try to kind of take all these complicated swing mechanics and reduce them into just simple images and feelings, right? I like that. And that's how then you have to remember them. And the tee was again, I'm visual; that was a tremendous help. Yeah, that's it. That's what I'm talking about. Look at that; watch where this lands. Now, how good is that? Wow. And under normal circumstances, that ball would have ended up either in the left bunker or in front of the green. And that was a nine iron, so you already gave me an extra club. There you go; simple. All right. So you can see that look, even with Adam, he wanted to focus on lots of little things.
